Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest just to cite this few are increasingly used by small businesses to promote their products, services, or both and to drive sales. If you don’t maintain an active online presence on your social media platforms, your customers are likely to choose another business when searching for local products or services. On the other hand, posting too often will leave your customers overwhelmed and give you a negative reputation. Your customers' engagement should determine how often you should post on your business platforms. The way your audience is active and interact should tell you if you have to post on a daily basis.
On Facebook, posting several times a day will not help your business drive sales and customers’ engagement. In users’ news feeds, Facebook prioritises content from friends, making it harder for brands to get their content in front of their target audience. Each post a business makes throughout the day reduces organic reach. For businesses whose pages have above 10000 followers, posting more that once a day might help them have more customers engaged and more likes. On the other hand business pages which have less than 10000 followers might not have the same results if they post twice a day. Businesses who post content 1 to 5 times a week are more likely to see their engagement double and can easily drive traffic on their pages.
With Instagram you need to be consistent on your posts and in the pattern your started with. Because it is dependent on visuals, frequency does not really matter but consistency makes you keep your page active and your followers engaged throughout. Businesses with smaller audiences can share 1 to 2 pictures or videos a day. If you decided from the onset to post 1 to 2 times a day, don’t drop. Inconsistency will affect your Instagram marketing strategy and make you loose followers.
Twitter has a limited average life time for every tweet. After 15 to 20 minutes, your recent tweets get pushed to the bottom and give room for new posts to fill your followers' feeds. As such, you can post periodically throughout the day but don’t over load your followers with tweets. The lesser the tweets, the more engagement you get. In case you want to have a large number of responses, you can go in for more tweets a day.
LinkedIn on the other hand recommends sharing 20 posts per month. Research reveals that there is a significant drop of engagement on posts on weekends because users mostly visit the platform on standard workweek. Since it’s a professional networking site, you will want to focus more on the quality of the content and make sure it is about your business news and announcements. Post content which is strictly related to your business, informing your customers on any latest information about your business not more than twice a day.
You may start experimenting with your daily posts and keep track of your customers engagement on your posts. After some time, analyse and determine if you have to increase your posting frequency or reduce it.
