Every manager wants to hire and retain the best employees in their establishments who can perform the job for which they are paid and who can be trusted. Aside from technical skills, some employers also search for some personal traits that make up the ideal employee (soft skills).
Employers want to work with people who are accountable and can be responsive to any task that is given to them. Below are some qualities of a reliable employee every employer wants to see in his team.
1. They are committed.
A reliable employee shows commitment to the company for which he works. They are more determined than other employees, they are highly productive, and offer proactive support to the company. Their primary motivation is the passion for their work and not what they get in return.
A reliable team member is fully invested in the team; he identifies himself with other team members, believes in them and in the company, and he is willing to work hard for the company to attain set goals.
A good employee really fits in the company and they understand the set goals. An employee’s commitment to work usually helps to increase the overall performance of the company because they believe in the company, other team members, and understand the goals of the company.
2. They communicate proactively.
Reliable employees are those who can communicate freely with other team members and managers within the company. They should always keep the company and other team members updated on any issue they face and the progress in their assigned tasks.
Good communication in a company can be the line that separates success from failure when trying to achieve the company’s set goals. With proper communication, managers will be able to identify problems that plague the company and prevent other problems before they happen and even spot opportunities for progress.
When recruiting, managers look for good communicators who can speak up their minds when things go wrong and who can propose valuable ideas. Informed managers and employees who communicate proactively are more likely to trust each other, stay engaged, and more motivated.
3. A reliable team member is trustworthy.
Trustworthiness is a soft skill that most employers research when recruiting. Both managers and other employees should be able to trust each other in a workplace.
A good employee should be trustworthy, dependable, and reliable. No matter how skillful you are, you should be able to follow through with your promises. Show trust to other team members and trust them as well. Always do what you have been assigned for and in due time, take responsibility for your work, and never let other team members down.
The absence of trust in a workplace can strain relationships and give rise to unnecessary conflicts. Without trust there is no teamwork and without teamwork there is no company growth.
4. Honesty and integrity.
A reliable team member should be honest and have a high level of integrity. It's ok to make mistakes from time to time but trying to shift your responsibilities to another person is not worth a good employee. Being honest and voicing the truth can enable managers and other team members to identify the issues and solve it before it goes out of hand.
An atmosphere of honesty in a workplace fosters self accountability and responsibility, it builds trust and confidence in leadership. However being honest doesn’t mean that you have to hide your thoughts even when you’re not comfortable, you can speak your mind when things are not moving and make constructive criticisms in a calm and polite way without hurting anyone’s feelings.
5. They meet deadlines.
Working with an employee who always meets his deadline is priceless for any company. An employee should always have in mind to meet the deadlines. Not just meeting the deadline but doing the job well and on time. For any role you have been given or for any task you have been assigned, strive to meet your deadlines.
Deadlines are very important in a workplace and they are essential for the smooth running of a company. Deadlines in a company helps ensure that work is completed on time, that all workers do their job well, and helps keep all company projects on track.
Any worker who fails to meet deadlines is a thorn in the side of the company as missing any deadline will affect the flow of work and probably damage the company’s reputation.
6. Reliable workers are consistent.
Good workers should be consistent at work by being able to maintain the same standards of work throughout and the same behaviors that led to a high quality of work in the company. Consistent workers always strive to increase their performance day after day. For this, you need to identify your areas of improvement within your workplace and focus more on them.
Consistency boosts an employers productivity as well as the overall productivity of the company. It improves the quality of work and increases the speed at which work is done.
7. A reliable worker follows through.
A good worker should be able to follow through with the plans, projects and overall set goals of a company. The same zeal, motivation and enthusiasm a worker has when he starts a new job should accompany him throughout.
8. They excel daily.
A reliable worker excels daily, he always tries to improve his skills and do things better than what he did the previous day. They always share innovative ideas and share their difficulties with other team members to get solutions. Good workers are receptive to new ideas, they are creative, and collaborate with other team members to achieve a common goal.
Managers always want to work with people who are willing to grow and perform their tasks better than what they did previously. Employees who excel daily are blessings for companies because with sush workers, the set goals of the company are always achieved timelessly.
